An Overview Of My Research Paper Topic

My Research paper will explore the issue of undocumented children in the United States. It is an issue that I am connected to and an issue I feel passionately about. I feel that the immigration system in the United States is broken and it needs to be fixed. The question I have for this paper is “Should undocumented children who have been brought to the United States be held responsible for their status? And should they have the opportunity to further their education as well as have an easier process through which they can become American citizens?” Many of these children were brought to America at a young age and consider themselves Americans. It is the only country they know and yet they are being denied the right to further their education and progress in society. I feel as though this is an issue that Needs to addressed because so many of these children cannot progress and have hit the wall with nowhere to turn.

I’m hoping that my paper can adequately address this issue and the concern I have for the well being of these undocumented children. Through doing some research I have discovered an amazing and powerful statement that is repeated a few times, “education is a human right.” If this statement is true then why are so many being denied the right to have an education?

I am in the early stages of writing this paper and it is very difficult to keep my emotions under control whether it is crying or being filled with anger and the need to act. I am outraged at the situation and sadden by the circumstances. It seems so morally wrong to deny children who journeyed to America with no real say in the matter a chance to progress. I have written letters to Vice President Joe Biden concerning the issue and although I obtained a response saying that the Obama administration is trying to address the issue, I feel that more needs to be done. People need to continually speak out and become aware because it is simply unfair and unjust. I hope that my paper will be persuasive enough to those that read it, helping them to understand the importance of the issue and the importance to act. In my English class a student once said, those that are brought to the shores of America, and are in America were brought here for a reason and are meant to be here. I truly believe that statement.

These are links to video clips on what is known as the Dream Act an act that many are hoping will be passed and it would greatly help those children who are currently seen as undocumented and cannot progress:
